Can someone please buy AOL and ‘gut it like a fish’

Can someone please buy AOL and ‘gut it like a fish’?! I mean no disrepect to all the great people working at AOL – but this is a Web 1.0 company and its day is done. It can join a long line of great Internet companies that are really no more – Netscape, Alta Vista, Overture etc etc. Time to move on folks!

Eh – what is wrong with ‘web 1 .0′?

Furthermore – Overture as a failed 1.0 company? Without the monetization schema that Overture started, it is arguable if Google would even exist.

And Overture still does exist, just not in name anymore.

I’m with you, DF – though I’d challenge the Web 1.0 description… they’re kind of an anti-web, really.

Thanks for the comments. What can I say? Overture was one of the great Internet companies and true innovation machine – but my view is it is slowly being run down by YHOO. And yes, I see AOL as really a pre-Web company (hertitage is access/dial-up), maybe that makes it a ‘Web -1.0′? ;-)
